I am thrilled to announce that one of my favorite guilty pleasure shows is back for another season. I discovered 90 Day Fiancé on TLC last fall and became obsessed. Apparently the show has been around for multiple seasons, which is why they have created a spin-off with some of the series most notable couples and how married life is going for them. The two couples from last season on this current spin-off are Jorge and Anfisa & Chantel and Pedro. There are couples from previous seasons also: Russ and Pao, Loren and Alex, & of course, Mohammad and Danielle.
For those who have not watched any of the previous seasons, it might be helpful to go back and rewatch some of the older seasons, as well as last season’s “90 Day Fiancé- Happily Ever After?”, which I believe you can do on TLC’s website. It is pretty easy to catch up on because most of the episodes always premiere with recaps on how each of the couples met.
Jorge & Anfisa
We last left of with Jorge and Anfisa’s wedding, on the finale of last season. Jorge and Anfisa have most definitely the most volatile relationship of the bunch. I am shocked that they are even still married, but that could all change now that Anfisa has received her green card in the most recent episode. Jorge is terrified Anfisa will do just that- she even “jokes” about leaving him. I wish Jorge would stand up for himself more around her. She bullies him hardcore and manipulates his every move. The guy can’t even leave his house for 20 minutes without getting non-stop, screaming calls from his angry wife. Jorge was planning on making a short appointment with an attorney to discuss a pre-nuptial agreement- sans Anfisa. But that was cut short due to her badgering and manipulating phone calls. I am looking forward to see the fate of this relationship throughout this season. I do think that Anfisa cares for Jorge, despite her manipulative and gold-digging tendencies. She seems to have toned down her attitude just a bit from last season- but I’ve only gone to episode three-so that very well could change.
Chantel and Pedro
Chantel and Pedro are another couple from last season, who I am shocked are still married and together. Last season, Chantel lied to her family about her engagement to Pedro, and in the end was forced to come clean days before the 90-day K1 visa was up. Chantel and Pedro eventually had a shotgun wedding in a park, where her family reluctantly attended. This season, Chantel and Pedro are planning a second wedding in Pedro’s home country of the Dominican Republic. However, it is clear that Chantel’s family are still not the biggest fans of Pedro, especially her younger brother. Pedro is very controlling towards Chantel and in the last episode, became angry when he learned Chantel was having a Bachelorette party thrown in honor of their upcoming wedding. It will be interesting to see how the rest of the season plays out with these two. To me, they do not seem like they are happy and are constantly fighting over Chantel’s partying or money. They are both young and I am under the impression that Chantel is still being somewhat supported by her family.
Danielle and Mohammad
Danielle and Mohammad appeared on the first season of the 90 Day Fiancé spinoff, as well as being a featured couple on one of the earlier seasons of “90 Day Fiancé”. As of this season, the couple are separated and living in separate states. Mohammad’s intentions were clear from the beginning- marry Danielle for the purpose of getting a green card, then leaving her- which is exactly what he did. Danielle naively believed that they were a happy couple and that Mohammad would be a loving father to her children and fit right into her tiny hometown of Sandusky, Ohio, where there is pretty much nothing to do. Mohammad was clearly never physically attracted to Danielle, which is shown during their wedding where he refuses to kiss her in public.
Danielle received scrutiny from her family and friends for marrying and trusting Mohammad. He even talked her out of filing for an annulment, which would have most likely deported him back to his home country of Tunisia. This season, Danielle is out for blood and is determined to get Mohammad deported. His false promise of “staying friends” with her after their separation upset her. He moved to Florida and has dated several other women, much younger and more attractive than Danielle, which is also upsetting for her to see. Mohammad is enjoying his single life in Florida, where he is working but living in constant fear of Danielle’s stalking and possibility of deportation.
Loren and Alexi & Pao and Russ are my least favorite couples on the show. They both appeared on the first season of the show and on prior seasons of “90 Day Fiancé”. Loren and Alexi have been married for a while now and they don’t seem to have much of a story-line this season, other than Loren’s openness about her diagnosis of Tourette’s Syndrome and Alexi still being mad about Loren having strippers at her Bachelorette party (years ago) *yawn*. Otherwise, they seem like a solid couple and I feel like most of this season will be boring with the chance of pointless arguing over nothing.
Pao and Russ are a bit different because they have been living apart. Pao, who is from Colombia, moved to Oklahoma to marry Russ, a simple southern and conservative man. Pao hated living in such a small town and was very unhappy, so she convinced her husband to agree to letting her move to Miami, where she feels more at home. This season, Pao is trying to convince Russ to relocate to Miami to be with her. However, Russ feels very out-of-place in Miami and does not seem to be willing to make that sacrifice. I don’t know how their relationship can survive with them living apart for much longer. Either Russ gives in and moves to Miami or they split. We will have to see what happens in upcoming episodes.
