I am still coming off of my vacation high from my beach trip to Figure Eight Island in North Carolina last week. Although my family and I have visited the island before, none of the trips are possibly as memorable as our stay last week- mainly because the house we rented for the week was out of this world and absolutely perfect. I truly felt like a celebrity staying in this gorgeous beach house, which has enough bells and whistles to be featured on MTV Cribs. Although the house is technically called The Boat House by it’s owners, I call it the Mailbu Barbie House because of its contemporary and modern design. Plus, I did feel like a real-life Barbie staying in this house that seemed too perfect to be real.
The house was finished last summer and was built to look like a boat. The property the house is build on is actually where a shipwreck occurred in the 1800s. The owners of the house even incorporated a piece from the shipwrecked boat (the ply wood in the picture above) to pay respect to the history of the land, adding an artistic appeal to the already astonishing property.
My family and I were lucky enough to get the chance to stay in this house and use all of its luxurious ammenities- including a rooftop plunge pool with views of both the ocean and the inter-coastal waterway with a magnificent view of the sunset. The 4th floor rooftop also includes a separate bar room (with a huge couch and flat screen tv), along with a fire pit, infinity plunge pool, and a relaxing seating area built from a real boat. The views from the rooftop are spectacular on both ends. And on a still summer night, the fire pit and plunge pool with changing color lights is just delightful. I spent a majority of my time on the rooftop, despite there being a gorgeous beach across the street. For me, being able to gaze upon the ocean was enough. Although, I did make the short walk across the street a few times to dip my feet in the sea and feel the ocean breeze.
The last thing I wanted to add about the house itself is its impeccable interior decor. The owners of the house have very similar taste to my own- rustic beach charm with eastern touches, along with modern and contemporary art pieces. If I am ever lucky enough to one day afford a house so incredible, I can imagine decorating the house in a similar fashion. The main house bedrooms are all spacious with king size beds, private bathrooms, and outdoor balconies. The room I stayed in was huge and had a massive closet that dreams are made of. The second floor has a beautiful kitchen with all the fanciest appliances, including a glass door refrigerator, a separate coffee making station, two dishwashers, and an ice maker- just to name a few. The dining area features a stunning long wood table with seats for over 12 guests and a unique edison bulb light fixture above. Other cool features of the house include an elevator, a massive and updated two-car garage, an outdoor shower, and beautiful outdoor atrium on the bottom floor.
